Gordon Corera charts the beginnings of MI6, founded by Sir Mansfield Cumming, an eccentric and formidable figure known as 'C', who signed his name in green ink. Corera also examines the agency’s role during the two World Wars and details of some of the gadgets that any self-respecting agent could not do without. |

Gordon Corera focuses this half hour on intelligence efforts during the Cold War. John Scarlett, the outgoing head of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service, tells Corera about undercover operations behind the Iron Curtain. We also hear from Russian defector Oleg Gordievsky about his reasons for coming over to the other side.
