Italy is obviously one of those places where people are really passionate about football. The game is embedded in Italian culture. And soccer-wise, the capital of Italy right now is Milan. Milan has two high-ranked soccer teams. As you might expect, this can foster a lot of inner-city rivalry. In this documentary produced for the BBC World Service, soccer journalist David Goldblatt dives into the rivalry between Milan's two football teams, and explores their links with local culture.

In President Mubarak's Egypt, political activity and comment is very tightly controlled and policed. For many Egyptians, football offers one of the few opportunities to both raise their voices and revel in large displays of collective identity and activity. Cairo's newly formed Ultra's, modeled slavishly along the lines of Italy's own fanatical club supporters, now find themselves in direct conflict with the state as a result.
